The goal of this project was to show complex timeline data in an infographic. I watched Groundhog Day 8 times to gather accurate information about events, emotions, loops, triggers, and themes.
Groundhog day is a film where conventional time is disrupted and the same day and events indefinitely repeat. To represent this, the form of the diagram begins with a chronological timeline that is broken and becomes a circle. A circle was chosen because the number of days repeated is speculated to be between 4-40 years, and hypothetically could have continued infinitely, like a circle. When the cycle is broken, normal time continues.
The main characters are represented by circles. The lines show how many times they appear as well as character relationships. The number of appearances determines the size of the circle and the importance of the character relative to Phil, the main character. Phil as the main character is identified by a red circle and correspond with the red lines that connect the events that happen each day. The coloured dots beside each event are coded by colour theory to mark the changes in Phil's emotions and actions throughout the film.
